摘要
To meet the demand and supply of oil and natural gas in the future will be very difficult and become a major concern in the whole world. The possible solution is alternative fuels or renewable energy resources which either in the form of biodiesel or bio-lubricants. This would be the prominent solution to overcome from conventional energy resources. These bio-based lubricants nowadays getting importance as an alternative fuel in many different applications. This paper reviews the various chemical compositions of bio-based oils including different feedstocks for bio-lubricants. Some chemical modifications processes such as transesterification, epoxidation and hydrogenation are also discussed with some related applications along with advantages and limitations in terms of characteristic features of the raw materials used for processing of bio-based lubricants.
