Improving efficiency of flywheel energy storage system with a new system configuration

摘要
A novel flywheel energy storage system is proposed in this study. The converter for the flywheel energy storage system is composed of an ac/dc, a dc/ac and a motor/generator converters. In motoring mode(the line is on), the ac/dc converter lets the system deliver sinusoidal input current and boosts the de link voltage. Tn generating mode(the line is off), the dc/ac supplies sinusoidal voltage to load. The Halbach array machine is selected for the design of a three-phase motor/generator for the flywheel energy storage system. The energy storage system consists of a composite wheel and a magnetic bearing resulting in the reduction of the system loss.
