A broadband dual-fed notched suspended plate antenna

A single-layer dual-fed suspended plate antenna (SPA) with a notched radiator and broad lateral width is presented for high gain and broad coverage applications. Both the impedance and gain bandwidths of the proposed antenna are increased by extending the radiation aperture, while the occurrence of high-order modes is suppressed by using a dual-feed structure and notching the edges of the radiator. For comparison, the performances of four other types of SPAs are also investigated numerically and verified experimentally. Given the information on the merits and weaknesses of these SPAs, antenna engineers can opt for the appropriate antenna with the desirable performance for their specific applications.
