摘要
Agriculture requires large amount of water for crop production. But presently, water shortage is increasing across the world, due to which agricultural practices are hit. Therefore WWF promotes a rice-growing system it claims could save billions of cubic meters of water while increasing food security. Under this system, rice plantlets are raised in manure-enriched seedbeds, close to carefully drained fields, where they are eventually transplanted singly and widely spaced into wet but never inundated soil. Water is supplied intermittently to lightly moisten the ground, promoting healthier root growth. This system could save large quantities of water, while simultaneously increasing the production of rice.
