Civil discussion requires that every thesis have its antithesis. As applied to the noosphere, the opposite notion could he named the cacosphere, which needs an explanation. In Greek, kakos means trashy, bad, and kako-bios, living badly, poorly. Cacophony, a well-known term meaning dissonance in music, perfectly corresponds to what is going on in nature under anthropogenic stress. In the cacosphere, human activities have changed nature so much that natural ties have become distorted there and the capacity for recovery is limited. The most impressive manifestation of the cacosphere in nature is associated with a global change in the chemical composition of the atmosphere and climate because of the green house effect. In everyday usage, cacophony implies poor ecology.
