Influence of the grinding process on the formation of boundary layers on gears

摘要
The manufacturing parameters, especially the grinding feed rate and the metalworking fluid, influence the formation of boundary layers and thereby the running behavior of the parts. In this paper, the influence of the grinding process on the characteristics of boundary layers is analyzed. Therefore, test gears are manufactured with varying grinding process parameters. The test gears are measured by FIB-SEM regarding their structure and by XRD regarding their residual stress profiles. By combining boundary layer measurements and upcoming gear tests, correlations between manufacturing and operation are investigated in order to establish a more sustainable and economical design of gears.
