Remanufacturing of power transformers

The following paper will summarize the design considerations involved in the remanufacturing process. The main considerations involved in the redesign process will be discussed in general terms. The design process is critical in determining transformer reliability in service. A forensic study performed in the United Kingdom stated that 35% of transformer failures in the United Kingdom are due to design defects. [1] Given that a significant percentage of transformer failures have their root cause in design defects, the manufacturer's design philosophy, methods and approach are critical to in-service reliability.
