摘要
TCP was originally designed for wired communication. Internet was accessed with the help of Ethernet LAN giving the ability to share the same network between many users. In today's world due to the advancement of technologies, wireless LAN is becoming a preferred criterion for communication between many users. In many countries, hotspots are being created for providing free Wi-Fi service. However, WLAN throughput suffers from losses due to its TCP congestion mechanism which is much more suited for wired communication than wireless communication. In this paper, we would like to discuss various mechanisms that have been implemented to improve TCP throughput in WLAN and would like to suggest some improvement over the current method to achieve much better performance.
