The aim of the study was to determine the diagnostic value of the three-phase bone scintigraphy in avascular necrosis of the carpal lunate (Kienbock's disease). Twenty-six patients (pts) with clinical and suspected radiographic data for avascular necrosis of the carpal lunate were distributed in 3 groups and underwent three-phase bone scintigraphy. The blood pool index and the skeletal index were calculated ( normal value 1.15). False negative results were established in 2 pts (group I) and false positive in 1 pt(group III). Our study confirmed the high sensitivity (92%) of this method in Kienbock's disease and proved that the three-phase bone scintigraphy could be useful in the staging of the carpal lunate avascular necrosis.
