摘要
This paper describes an application of a novel mapping, one that is intended for use in on-line hand-written character recognition. This mapping produces the same output pattern regardless of the orientation, position, and size of the input pattern. The mapping has the advantage of being simple. This makes it computationally efficient and fast, which in turn makes it appropriate for on-line implementations. To demonstrate the usefulness of this mapping, a recognition system utilizing it has been developed for hand-written Arabic characters. The performance of this system is shown to be comparable to that of the existing on-line Arabic character recognition systems. (C) 2001 Pattern Recognition Society. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
