Relationship between the covalent and van der Waals radii of elements

摘要：

A constant difference of about 0.8 Angstrom between the van der Waals and covalent atomic radii is due to the systematic variation of the bond length with the bond order. This value can be deduced from the principle of equalization of interatomic distances in polymorphic transformations accompanied by an increase in the coordination number.
