摘要
Although astronomers have been involved with the development and use of least squares, and alternatives, they have made little use of total least squares, and this little use has been confined largely to univariate orthogonal regression. They have, however, contributed to techniques related to generalized. least squares. There exist, however, problems of astronomical data reduction for which total least squares represents the ideal mathematical tool; the method merits greater attention by the astronomical community.
