Sedimentation in the Gebidem hydroelectric reservoir and some of its consequences

The sedimentation is particularly high in the Gebidem hydroelectric reservoir. The following lines are meant to describe the measures taken by the operators in order to face this problem. They are especially related to the annual flushing operations and their repercussions on the bottom outlets of the dam. They also deal with the intensive abrasion of the turbines in the Bitsch power station, due to water highly loaded with suspended sediments. The end of the text gives a description of the heightened water intake in the process of being built with the aim of catching water containing less sediments, this in order to reduce abrasion.
