Ultrasonography of the flexor tendons in the horse: A review of the literature and personal experiences with emphasis on the superficial flexor tendon

A review of the literature on the ultrasonography of the tendons in the horse is presented with emphasis on the superficial flexor tendon. Some basic principles are outlined and specific characteristics of ultrasonographic diagnosis, prognosis and healing of tendon injuries - specifically of the superficial flexor tendon -are discussed. The data from the literature are compared to the authors' own findings. The paper is illustrated with original cases from the clinic.
