摘要
The results of helically grooved grinding experiments of four materials are presented and compared with those obtained through conventional method. The grinding tests were conducted on a plain center-type cylindrical grinding machine on which the grinding depth can be controlled in the range of 1 μm in the grinding process. The experimental results for the ground surface roughness of four materials at the same grinding conditions under both CCG and HGCG show that the material type has a great effect on the ground surface roughness. Steels with low carbon levels are found to be more gummy and tend to develop a build up on the edge of the cutting tool, resulting in a lower-than-expected machinability rating. When a helically grooved grinding wheel is used, the surface roughness of the brass, AISI 1040, and AISI 2080 show a consistency, namely, the surface roughness decreased in comparison with conventional grinding.
