Dynamics of the boundary of solar electron penetration into the earth's magnetosphere in November 2001

摘要
The dynamics of the boundary of solar electron (with an energy of 0.3-0.6 MeV) penetration into the Earth's magnetosphere on November 4-8 and 23-27, 2001, has been analyzed based on the CORONAS-F satellite measurements. Two strong magnetic storms with a Dst variation of -292 and -225 nT occurred at that time: on November 6 and 24, respectively. The dynamics of the electron flux penetration boundary has been compared with the variations in the interplanetary medium parameters and geomagnetic activity indices. It has been indicated that the polar cap and plasma sheet regions increase and the region of stable particle capture decreases with decreasing dimensions of the magnetosphere caused by an enhanced solar wind pressure at negative B-z.
