CeO2 improves the activity and selectivity of Pd/Al2O3 catalyst for methanol decomposition. The interaction between Pd and CeO2 was then proposed to result in the promoting effect. The selectivity of CO and Hz is significantly improved by addition of La2O3 to either Pd/Al2O3 or Pd/CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts. Moreover, a synergistic promotion between CeO2 and La2O3 on gamma -Al2O3 supported Pd catalysts was observed for the catalytic activity towards methanol decomposition into CO and H-2.
