摘要
This article presents an analysis of the role of the academic function as represented in extension in University Social Responsibility (USR) as a relevant element of the commitment of avant-garde universities with their environment. USR is intrinsically rooted in the obligation of these houses of study to give accurate answers to society's demands while being aware of the impacts they may produce. First, this paper offers an in-depth conceptual study on university extension (UE) and its dimensions from some experts in the field and a select group of Venezuelan universities. Later we examine it from the perspective of USR as one of its necessary components to fulfill part of the mission of universities and their commitment in search of the well-being and sustainable development of society. Finally, it presents some final considerations by way of reflection on the role that UE should assume as an academic stronghold that contributes to the strengthening of USR.
