摘要：
Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are bright and distant explosions, caused by the death of a massive star, making them excellent probes of star formation at all redshifts. One application of GRBs is to perform optical spectroscopy of their after-glows, thereby obtaining detailed information about the inter-stellar medium of the host galaxy, even when the latter is not detected. This application is demonstrated through VLT/FORS spectroscopy of the afterglow of GRB 030323.
