摘要
The enzyme activities encoded in five cDNAs for the chalcone synthase (CHS) homologues from hop (Humulus lupulus L.) were investigated. Valerophenone synthase (VPS (CHS1)) and CHS_H1, encoded by yps and chs_H1, respectively, showed both naringenin-chalcone and phlorisovalerophenone (PIVP) forming activities. The naringenin-chalcone production by VPS was much lower than by CHS_H1. With respect to CHS2 and CHS4, only an intermediate product was formed during the VPS reaction and no compound was formed during the CHS reaction. CHS3 showed no enzyme activities. Therefore, the flavonoid biosynthesis depends on CHS_H1, while the bitter acid biosynthesis depends on VPS and CHS_H1.
