My personal experience of East-West cultural exchange

The author describes his own experience and interest in the famous Silk Road, an ancient pathway of diverse East-West cultural exchange: the route by which Buddhism arrived in Japan and along which the Chinese priest Xuanzang made a solitary journey to India in the 7th century. The Silk Road has inspired the author in his work as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in the preservation of cultural treasures in war zones and elsewhere. In his words, 'this venerable path linking East and West truly embodies the UNESCO spirit.'
