YAG:Ce-Al2O3 composite/spinel dual-layer ceramic phosphor for high luminous density light converting application

摘要
In this study, the YAG:Ce-Al2O3 composite/spinel dual-layer ceramic was fabricated using the spark plasma sintering (SPS). The role of the transparent spinel layer is to enhance thermal shock resistance and mechanical strength of the ceramic. Because of the high thermal conductivity of the spinel ceramic, the thermal conductivity of the dual-layer ceramic was similar to the YAG:Ce-Al2O3 ceramic. The cross-sectional XRD and SEM results of the sample confirmed that there was no apparent chemical reaction at the interface between the YAG:Ce-Al2O3 composite ceramic layer and the spinel ceramic layer. The YAG:Ce-Al2O3 composite/spinel dual-layer ceramic possesses high thermal conductivity and mechanical strength, and is a promising phosphor conversion material for high power laser driving in the transmissive configuration.
