A 140 GHz Gyro-Amplifier Using a Sever-Less Confocal Waveguide

摘要
A 140 GHz, 1 kW pulsed gyro-amplifier system is being developed at MIT for enhanced Dynamic Nuclear Polarization for NMR (DNP-NMR). A confocal geometry configuration is being explored as an approach to achieving an overmoded interaction waveguide. This confocal waveguide has been redesigned to operate without severs. A study of electron beam quality over a wide parameter space directed the choice for a new operating point. Mode converters were designed with the goal of improving coupling into the mode of operation within the circuit. This experiment has operated with a peak circuit gain of 23 dB over 1.4 GHz of bandwidth. Current efforts include improving the device gain by reducing input losses and studying the electron gun performance.
