摘要
The development of skills is essential in a professional career, in which people must face situations in addition to technical knowledge. The need for the development of nurses' professional skills is a concern of managers nowadays. Aiming to contribute with knowledge, the goal of this study is to conduct a reflection and describe the main skills nurses need to develop in order to improve their professional performance in the hospital context, and to understand the difference of the profile of hard skills and soft skills in the work of nurses. The literature review was conducted using the following databases: Scielo, Lilacs, MEDLINE and PubMed from July to August 2020. The results found comprised 11 articles, where the main findings show the main competences and the difference of the profile of hard skills and soft skills in the nurse's work. In the current job market, there is a need for nursing professionals who have behavioral or socio-emotional skills (soft skills), especially regarding to communication skills and interpersonal relationships, for them to deal with situations that require adaptive behavior, quick decision-making and ability to work as a team.
