摘要
Treatment of non-cognitive symptoms in dementia patients with antipsychotics is associated with considerable side effects and risks. Alternative treatment options are available, particularly cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, selective serotinin inhibitors (SSRI), monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, trazodone, tiapride and various anticonvulsants. Indications, efficacy, and side effects for these drugs in the treatment of behavioral disturbances in dementia patients are presented. The choice of drug treatment driven by target symptoms and tolerability considerations is exemplified through a case history.
