摘要
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects 202 million people worldwide, including 8.5 million people in the United States. It is caused by atherosclerosis that leads to limited blood flow in the legs and other parts of the body. There are several treatment options available, but awareness of the disease and how it can be prevented needs to be increased. Community pharmacists can have a significant impact on patients with PAD by encouraging a healthy lifestyle and smoking cessation for prevention and by assisting in medication adherence to improve outcomes.
