摘要
Using JSP and Java beans, we developed an on-line course and homework handling system that allows students and instructors to management their courses and homework assignments. Through one simple interface the system facilitates students and instructor communication about homework administration. In addition grading of programming homework assignments is easier than traditional grading. We find the current system implementation handles Java homework assignments very well. With simple modifications we believe the system can be extended to handle programming assignments of other programming languages. The system design is a three-tier architecture. The presentation layer or first tier supporting the graphical user interface is a collection of Java Server Pages (JSP) files. The application layer, the middle tier of the architecture, for the business logic mixes JSP and Java beans. An Oracle database is the third tier. We selected Apache Tomcat as the JSP engine.
