摘要
Air pollution problem caused by heavy duty diesel vehicles in urban transport has been investigated. At first the contribution of heavy duty diesel trucks to air pollution especially by oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) is discussed. It has been found out that the emissions, particularly NOx and PM, from heavy duty diesel vehicles are disproportionately high compared to their population or vehicle miles travelled (VMT). Additionally a few methods to reduce the NOx and PM emission in-cylinder of diesel engines are presented also which seem to be of great practical importance in the future.
