Dramatic improvements in web-based patient education: End-stage renal disease pilot program

We describe a new model for building up patient education web sites based on the criterion that effective, assessed patient learning is the only legitimate criterion for success. The natural result is a multi-level-of-difficulty, individualized learning experience for the user. Although eventually an expert-system-based tutorial system, the initial program uses an intense educator-patient-programmer relationship to iteratively build an effective learning site.
