Experimental study on acoustic emission transmitting performance and its application in tool breakage monitoring

摘要
Cutting tool monitoring is a crucial technique which poor reliability remains as one of the major obstacles to metal-cutting automation. To improve the reliability of tool breakage monitoring system, the paper is to investigate the transmitting performance and principle of acoustic emission (AE) signal in order to provide theories and experimental dependence for application of AE technique. The influences of geometric shape and material properties of the mediums and bearing type for AE transmission are analyzed experimentally. It provides a theoretic foundation for selecting the transmission route of AE signal and location of fixed AE sensor in AE signal detection. As a result, a tool breakage monitoring system was set up.
