Simulation and animation models have developed rapidly over the past decade. Even so, the current state-of-the-art can be viewed only as being in a state of continual development with improvements in both hardware and software constantly being introduced. Recent advances include ODS (Object Orientated Software) and enhanced graphics for animation. Perspectives on the current state of affairs for discrete system simulation for mining with possible future applications are presented and discussed. The interaction of simulation and animation on the WWW (World Wide Web) is discussed.
