Instability of a multimode oscillation in a photorefractive ring oscillator

摘要
A theory of multimode oscillation in an optical unidirectional ring resonator with photorefractive gain was given in the weak-field limit, in which the mode coupling is considered carefully. The characteristics of single-mode oscillation in steady state were analyzed in detail, especially when the externally applied dc electric field is not zero. By numerical simulation, we investigated a three-mode oscillation and observed instability phenomena which are similar to the periodic oscillation of several transverse family modes observed in experiment.
