Microelectrode arrays having eight 10-mu m-diameter gold microelectrodes arranged on a gold-covered Si chip were designed and characterized. The chips prove useful for the detection of single-nucleotide mismatches in unlabeled and prehybridized DNA by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
