Superplasticity in tetragonal zirconia stabilised with 3 mol % of yttria: An examination of the flow mechanisms

it is well established that yttria-stabilised tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) exhibits superplastic behaviour at elevated temperatures. This paper describes: a detailed analysis of very recent results documenting the high temperature creep behaviour of Y-TZP samples containing 3 mol % of Y2O3. It is shown that the experimental dare are consistent with the occurrence of flow by Coble diffusion creep but with an interface-controlled behavior which reduces the measured creep rates below those anticipated for conventional diffusion creep.
