An investigation of the fatigue and fracture behavior of laminated MoSi2/Nb-15Al-40Ti composites

Preliminary results from an experimental study of the effects of reinforcement (Nb-15Al-40Ti) thickness on the fatigue and fracture behavior of laminated MoSi2/Nb-15Al-40Ti composites are presented. These include results obtained from studies of crack growth in notched composite specimens deformed to failure under monotonic or cyclic loading. Fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth behavior are studied in composites reinforced with three different layer thicknesses. The paper highlights the potential effects of processing-induced interdiffusion on the mechanical properties of layered materials.
