摘要
Iran is experiencing nutrition transition and the prevalence of diabetes is increasing in Iran. This study investigated lipid profile in a group of Iranian type 2 diabetic men and women. Serum levels of the lipids including triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol were compared in a total of 219 diabetic men and women (fasting blood glucose more than 126) and 189 normal subjects (fasting blood glucose less than 110). The results showed that the diabetic subjects had higher serum triglyceride levels than normal subjects (252.3 +/- 147.6 vs 184.7 +/- 103.9 p = 0.0001). Serum level of total cholesterol was also significantly higher in diabetic than normal subjects (213.7 +/- 48.8 vs 204.6 +/- 42.6 p = 0.03). Serum level of HDL cholesterol (40.9 +/- 10.6 vs 42.8 +/- 10.2 p = 0.08) and LDL cholesterol (129.0 +/- 41.3 vs 126 +/- 39.0 p = 0.21) were not statistically different in diabetic and normal subjects in this study. In conclusion, this study indicated that in the study diabetic subjects the main blood lipid abnormality were increased triglyceride and total cholesterol levels.
