A better time now to consider new reactors

The views of Christopher Crane, President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Exelon Nuclear, on new reactors are presented. He thinks that the new reactors must be economically competitive as compared to other base load generation alternatives. For high level waste disposal the Seceretary of Energy and the Congress have recommended and approved a license application to the U.S. Nuclear Power Regulatory Commission(NRC) for the storage and disposal of spent fuel and high level waste at the Yucca Mountain site. Attracting initial investors to demonstrate successfully the new regulatory process and plant construction will significantly reduce the risk for follow on investors.
