The nature of performance measurement systems and measures in UK industry

This paper details results from empirical research carried out between 1995 and 1997. This research was based around developing and testing an integrated performance measurement framework and assessing the nature of performance measurement systems and measures. The research led onto an investigation into 12 organisations' performance measurement systems paying particular attention to non-financial measures. This paper will outline and discuss the breakdown of the performance measurement systems, highlighting certain measures which were termed as being common, and so illustrating the nature of measurement systems and measures, in use and in industry today.
