Corrosion of reinforcement in marine concrete is an oxygen dependent process. This means that the corrosion rate in a marine environment is controlled by tile amount of oxygen that can dissolve in the pore solution of the concrete. As a result, tile corrosion rate is generally limited by the diffusion rate of oxygen in the concrete pore solution Tile density and moisture content of the concrete therefore have a major effect on how fast the corrosion process proceeds. This investigation has shown that the lower the water cement ratio of the structure, tile lower the corrosion rate. Admixtures of micro silica also give a reduction in corrosion rate.
