High Gain and Wideband Circular Patch Antenna Loaded with MNZ Metamaterials

摘要
This paper proposed a new way of enhancing circular patch antenna's gain and bandwidth by loading MNZ(mu near zero) metamaterials. The method is founded upon the theoretical study using characteristics mode analysis and equivalent circuit method and is numerically verified by simulation results. With that, the first patch antenna's gain is increased from 7.23dBi to 10.45dBi. Besides the enhancement of gain, the paper presents a wideband design as well. Similarly with MNZ loading in the center, the proposed antenna achieve a wideband performance spanning from 4.85GHz to 8.69GHz, and the relative bandwidth reaches 56.72%, These indicate that loading with MNZ metamaterial can largely improve the antenna performance.
