Crystallography of potassium aluminate K2O•Al2O3

摘要
The phase transformations of the binary compound K2O . Al2O3 (KAlO2) were investigated to facilitate the construction of K-(Mg)-beta -Al2O3 phase diagrams. At ambient pressure, KAlO2 consists of three different crystalline phases, and in this respect it is similar to LiAlO2 and NaAlO2. Above 1350 degreesC delta -KAlO2 is cubic, between 1350 and 600 degreesC, gamma -KAlO2 is tetragonal, and below 600 degreesC, beta -KAlO2 is orthorhombic. The transition behavior of KAlO2 is compared with that of NaAlO2 and LiAlO2. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
