摘要
This paper shows the struggle of man with applying different construction materials to different types of civil structures. Especially the recent development is highlighted of using a new material, fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) as construction material in infrastructures. The question always is: how can we come to our goal on a cost effective way? Life cycle analysis is too limited and life cycle cost is nowadays a rather good comparison method to use. The challenge is how we optimize the use of materials, planet and costs.
