摘要
As a consequence of extremely limited resources in the country, Taiwan's energy supply depends heavily on imported energy. One objective of the country's energy policy therefore is the diversification of the energy resources used in order to achieve continuity of supply, this mix includes nuclear power. The first of the six nuclear power plants currently in operation was commissioned in 1977, Two more nuclear generating units are under contruction. In 2000, the plants contributed 23.6% to the electricity supply of the country. Their low generating costs also make them an important economic factor for Taiwan.
