摘要：
Most common causes and types of emulsion instability are discussed, particular the phenomenon known as flocculation. Theory of flocculation is briefly described. It is concluded that bitumen in water emulsions prepared with ionic surfactants are stabilized by means of an electrostatic mechanism. The addition of an electrolyte to the continuous phase, substantially changes the emulsions properties, since they favour their flocculation.
