Generalized transmission lines whose differential section contains either an additional series capacitance or parallel inductance arise in the analysis of layered structures when the source and the field are decomposed in TE and TM parts. Basic properties of such transmission lines are studied in the time domain. The differential equations for the voltage and current are of the Klein-Gordon form and known solutions are applied to find voltage and current quantities due to sources on the infinite line. As an example, reflection from a capacitive termination is solved in terms of image sources, which for a point source comprises a point source and an exponentially distributed source.
