摘要
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the usefulness of publicly available information for investment decisions. The study uses the survey method to identify the most important determinant/s for evaluating investment opportunities or firms. Thus the study gathered data from hundred and twenty investors in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The study found that the Peace condition, stock market trends, and the political stability of the country are the most important determinants for selecting any investment opportunity. However, when considering stock market investments, the most important determinant is the firm specific information. Further, the financial statements are more reliable and much popular source of firm specific information to stock market investors.
