Present global trend on EMC

The subject of EMC standards is very important. This paper deals with the state-of-the-art EMC activities on the international level, specially, of standard making bodies like IEC, FCC, CISPR as well as the EMC directives of the European Union. The paper deals also with the EMI trend in digital electronics and describes briefly the use of the optical fibres as transmission lines In PCBs In GHz frequency region. The harmonisation of the EMC standards at global level has been dealt with very briefly in this paper and provides an idea of the importance of harmonised EMC standards for global commercial activities. The EMC directives of the European Union will be very important in the next millennium. These European Union EMC directives may set a trend for global harmonisation of EMC standards which many countries are following at present.
