摘要
The ingestion of a foreign body is common in dogs. Sometimes the object travels through the digestive tract without consequence. However, a foreign body may become blocked in the oesophagus, particularly near the caudal oesophageal sphincter, which is the most inaccessible part of the oesophagus. It is imperative that presence of an oesophageal foreign body be diagnosed and dealt with as rapidly as possible. Complications are associated with the nature of the foreign body and also the period of time that it has been in situ. Endoscopic examination is the examination of choice. Using this technique, a definitive diagnosis and evaluation of the lesions can be made and the foreign body can be removed. In some cases, surgical intervention is necessary.
