摘要
In order to evaluate the immunohistochemical profile and the statistical associations of Fatty Acid Synthase (FAS) and Human Erythrocyte Glucose Transporter I (GLUT1) in breast carcinogenesis sixty-six surgical specimens from patients with breast carcinomas were studied. FAS and GLUT1 were expressed in 61 and 53 carcinomas, in 14 and 17 hyperplastic tissues and in 13 and 16 adjacent to tumor normal breast tissues (AT) respectively. GLUT1 expression was associated with invasive carcinomas. Both GLUT1 and FAS were associated with tumor grade and FAS with tumor stage. FAS and GLUT1 are recently isolated markers involved in biological activities of neoplastic cells. Co-expression is associated with aggressive features and poor outcome. Their expression in AT may suggest a role in detecting initial phases of breast carcinogenesis.
