A wide variety of novel chiral monodentate phosphonite ligands derived from binaphthol and biphenanthrol have been tested as ligands in the copper(I)-catalysed conjugate addition of diethylzinc to enones. resulting in e.e.s of up to 82% for chalcone. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
